Documenting Hate
Documenting Hate is an initiative to create a comprehensive, reliable national database of identity-related violence and other hate crimes directed toward people, places and institutions. Led by Rita Allen Foundation grant partner ProPublica, the project is a collaboration between news organizations, journalism schools and civil rights groups. The Foundation’s grant to partner organization New York Public Radio will broaden the project’s capabilities for collecting, fact checking and using data on hate crimes—in particular, through the national news and conversation program The Takeaway.
